R. macrandra is a very difficult plant to grow. The big problem with it is
it grows really fast but rarely looks how you think it should. I ripped mine
out due to frustration from watching the only nice part of the plant be the
very top.
Claus Christiansen from Tropica has an explanation for the problems with
pruning this plant that is over my head but has to do with nutrient
transmission being interrupted in a way that is unique to R. mac..Best
advice I can give you about this plant is No Shade, Never top it ( The
remaining stem will get woody and have zero aesthetic value )and No shade..
