PH Meters and Controllers

Hi all,
Looking to buy a PH meter or controller, not sure of the price differences
between the two, I originally just wanted a PH meter but figured seeing I'm
getting a CO2 setup ready I should probably consider one that can eventually
controll the CO2 setup. What information is important to know when choosing
one or the other? Obviously price is an issue at the moment and I've seen
models ranging from $20 to several hundreds. Which models should I be
considering? Do they all use similar probes or are there differences there
too to be considered?

I appreciate any info anyone can give me, I know nothing about them and
would hate to waste money on the wrong product.
