scuds/amphipods/grammerus

Has anyone raised these? I have searched the digest but fail to find a good
discussion of how to grow them out.  I now have them in my 2.5 gallon plant
tank.  At least I think I do, all the adults died in the last culture
attempt and now I have a lot of fast moving ‘dots’ in the water.  Can
someone tell me what these things like and what food value they have?
