Robert, is the tail of the fish forked or rounded (spade shaped)?

If its forked, it could be a female Bluenose Shiner (Pteronotropis welaka).
There is a photo on page 97 of the book North American Native Fishes for the
Home Aquarium (Barrons) that looks an awful lot like your photos.

If the tail isn't forked, Jeff McKee's suggestion that it is a female
Lucania goodei is another strong contender.
