Jack asked where he should place his pH probe.  

You can determine this for yourself easily and quickly.  Place it for a
while in lots of different places.  Leave it in each place until the
reading stabilizes.  Then you'll know what difference it makes to place
it here or there in your tank.  You'll probably find that it makes no
deiscernible difference so long as the water is flowing.
