Re: Salt and Plants

Hello,

Salt (sodium chloride) and most of the higher aquatic plants are mutually incompatible - the plants don't do well and eventually die.

There is some controversy about dosing an aquarium with salt. Some swear by it; others, equally well informed, avoid it except for special situations, like when fish are suffering with external parasites. Salt has no effect on internal infections as far as I know.

To me salt in an aquarium is like chemotherapy. You use it if you have to, but you don't take it as a periodic tonic.

Good luck.
