DIY :-fertiliser balls

In the archives I have seen one method of adding 8-9 grains of a common
garden NPK fertiliser to a small ball clay and then drying in the sun and
then use to poke in the substrate.

Another method a friend suggested was to put kno3 in clay with peat.

I would like others suggestions of making DIY substrate enriching fertiliser
clay balls.
