Amano's pH down substrate

Hi!

Just watched the Amano demo of tank planting from the AGA conference video
(worth getting!), and was interested if anyone knows of something like the
substrate he added on top of the Onyx sand provided, which he said lowers
the KH to about 4-5 - sounds very interesting for people in harder water
conditions (like Vegas!) - is it available?
