Have you ever tried using a cow, Daphne :)
Hey, seriously, I read somewhere that a tadpole is the
best algae-eater around.  But seems like it has to be a
frog tadpole and not a toad tadpole.  I can't tell the
difference though and even if I did, there are very few
frog tadpoles left in sunny Singapore.

Maybe you should go and try to catch one from the ponds
around your area.
