I've been running my tanks w/o filters for 6 months now, and have been
very happy with the results. I use a powerhead with diy CO2 systems and
8800k lights. The water is very soft, around 7-8 KH (RO/DI with some
tap water). The plants seem to be very happy. I do have to farm some
easy-to-remove algae at times. (I have one type of algae that I like
and allow to grow.)
In the 60 gallon tank I keep a bristlenose Pleco and 11 rummy nose
tetras; the 40 has tiger barbs and cories.
