This brought back fond memories.  I have kept both L. Tanganyikan and L.
Malawian cichlids (not together) in a planted tank.  It was always
interesting to see what they would do to the plants.  One particular mbuna
used to enjoy yanking on a crypt till it uprooted and then swam around with
it in his mouth.  I had the best luck with crypts, anubias nana, java fern
and tons of slate, for what it is worth.
