Davy,
I think that you are seeing springtails on the surface of your tank. They
will not harm your fish. I think they feed on either surplus food or the
bacteria and algae that grows at the surface of the tank. I am not familiar
with any method of removing them. In the past we have had population
outbreaks in some of our display tanks, usually in the filter bed(we have
external trickle filtration, and they were an indication the filter needed
to be cleaned. It may well be that some fish (surface feeders) will take
them, but I cannot recommend any at present. may be someone else on the list
can suggest something.

Hi all,
A couple of days ago, I noticed something unusual on the water surface of my
240 l tank. There seem to be some small critters that are jumping around at
the surface. They have a rather pinkish to orange color. As soon as you
approach them, they jump away. A few days ago, there were only a few of
these unidentifieds, but now, their number seems to have increased. They all
like to sit on top of the filter spray bar which comes out of the water a
bit.
Does anyone know what these critters are and how I can get rid of them?
