Even in a well sealed canister, if the media is well "cultured" and
perhaps a bit restricted with collected material, then gas bublles can
develop from within the canister (from the culture itself perhaps?),
can they not?  The vapor pressure is possibly lower in the canister
when the media becomes loaded and that might make it easier for bubbles
to form within the canister when they otherwise would not.
