Agree with Bill Wichers's comments. High
energy electron beams are being used on the
potentially contaminated mail around here
currently (Washington DC metro area), and are
the equipment used to process some foodstuffs
and medical devices. This is definitely
penetrating radiation and would be strongly
detrimental to plants at best.
How widespread this process will be ($$$ and
delaying) remains to be seen.
