Re: staghorn

About a year and a half ago I had a bad staghorn algae
problem. I sat here for a while trying to think of
what I did to get rid of the stuff, but all I could
come up with was the removal of a Coralife 50/50 bulb
and putting in overtime manually removing it. This is
why I now keep detailed records.

I may be way off base, but perhaps the 9700k bulbs are
too high a color temperature.

Or, your tank conditions as you report them now are
conditions that have only recently come to be.
Staghorn endures long after conditions have improved.
Depending on who you talk to, your phosphate level may
be a tad low, but I'm not sure that's it. Everything
else looks fine to me.

More potassium is something that I've found to be
helpful for a variety of problems. It may be the
extra kick your plants need to out compete the
staghorn.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm just hoping I
could at least get you or someone else thinking about
what the problem could be. Staghorn algae sucks.
I've been there.

Good luck, Cavan
