Cavan, what is the source for your distilled? Purchased or run through an RO 
unit?
I am having a very similar algae problem, and thought perhaps it was the 
local water supply. My algae is very similar to hair algae but not as 
green(more brown-red), and not as tough. This stuff is very soft and breaks 
up when trying to remove it. I do use tap but also have a bag of PO4 removing 
resins in my filter. My tap PO4 runs from 2-6ppm.
