If you want to catch a fish in a tank without ripping up the plants.  
One method.  You can catch most fish with a bottle trap and some
patience.  Get a small pint sized clear plastic water bottle, cut off
the top, invert it on the opened end of the bottle and hold it in place
with toothpicks.  Bait with some gelatinized-frozen food.  If the wrong
fish enters, release and try again.
