Do nymphea need dormancy?



I picked up this very odd little plant which has a good sized bulb and a
few miniscule pink nymphea like leaves sticking out the top.  If this were
an aponogeton, I'd wrap it in damp peat and let it sit for a couple months.
Do you think this is what it needs?
