A 5lb tank lasts for at least 6 months on my 75g tank.   CO2 is on 
continuous.   If it's only lasting 3 months, there is likely to 
be a leak.

I reply:

The 20# CO2 tanks I use on my tanks will typically last a year, give or take 
a bit. Glad you get 6 months. No leaks on my setups. 3 months is not an 
unreasonable time period to use 5#. Individual mileage may vary.
