I doesn't seem to me that Flourite should be a problem
for corys.  The grains are not rough to the touch or
sharp in any way.  Not like a broken glass substrate
anyway.  If you want to use Flourite for plants, you
could always cover it with some regular gravel if that
would ease your mind.  

Besides, the absence of barbels could be from
something else.  Maybe ammonia problems.
