I'm using the 2x96w setup over my reef tank, and am very happy with them.
If you can do basic wiring, you can assemble these.  The instructions are
well written and complete, and the kit includes every possible piece of
hardware you could want.  If you're only running 1 bulb, I'd be inclined to
use the 5000k tube, as the 6700k one will probably have a fairly blue cast,
making things look funny and possibly putting you more at risk for algae
problems.
