Viresco Aqua

I have been given a sample of a product which is designed to suppress
blanket weed and algal blooms in ponds and tanks. It does this by seeding
the ponds/tanks with beneficial micro-organisms i.e. bacteria. Whilst it
doesn't mention the bacterialspecies used, presumably they are nitrate and
phosphate metabolisers. Has anyone on the list heard of the product and
tried it. I believe it is used primarily in the US on golf courses. In
Britain it is used mainly on Koi ponds. The company claims that it doesn't
harm aquatic plants nor fish. We are trying it in several of our fish tanks
to reduce algal growth on the substrate. Anyone out there have views on its
effectiveness?Tim Henshaw
