There's no nitrogen in the formula. Photosynthesis does nothing to change
the state or concentration of nitrogen inside or outside the plant or
algae cell.

You state that "The cell gains energy from the light, which is used to
convert CO2 and H2O into carbohydrate and other cellular material, and to
release oxygen." this other cellular material you describe does indeed
contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and other chemicals that are not initially
involved in the chemical reaction called photosynthisis, but the chemicals
made by photosysthisis are used to incorporate nitrogen and other nutrients
into the cell to further growth. Not including photosynthesis as the starting
point of all these reactions is like cutting a snakes head off and expecting
it to go on living because the head is such a small part of the whole. All of
these chemical reactions are interconnected, each one just a smaller part of
a greater whole.
