I have some questions concerning SAE's.

1. Why are they so desireable? (apart from being astetically pleasing)
2. Why are they so hard to get? We have plenty in Japan, priced about 
´90-100 or so and on a recent trip to Thailand I noticed the natives eat a 
lot of them.
3. Why aren't they being commercially farmed? (they're cultured in ponds 
outside Bangkok)

Any answers to these or other questions this may engender are much 
appreciated. Thank you.
