Disappearing shrimp

It seems to me that ghost shrimp are extremly adept at poofing into 
nowwhere.  You might try cleaning the tank, some people find dried up little 
bodies(eww).  Most of the time they just seem to vanish into thin air no 
matter how well you take care of them.  I'd like to know what is the longest 
amount of time someone has kept them in their tank.
