According to the data in Davis and Brinson, V. americana does not grow in
nature at depths greater than about 8 feet.  I suspect V. gigantea will be
the same.  I assume that light at depth is the limiting factor, so the
maximum depth should be reduced for light levels less than natural
incident light and for poor water clarity.
