Most of us find that with adequate buffering, there isn't even any need to
use an air stone at night in a well maintatined healviyl planted tank.  I
haven't used one in any of my tanks in years.  But it is certainly an added
safety net, and if it makes you feel more comfortable, by all means use it.
 It's cheap, simple and it works.
