irk--If it says that, I may not trust the kit at all. New tanks still in 
cycling phase may have a booty load of nitrite but no nitrate whatsoever. 
vice versa for a tank that has been going years. nitrite-nitrate is not a 
chemical equilibrium so factor multiplication is cow manure. =)
