He'll probably eat the same type of live food the fish eat. I think amphibians
are a little more picky about their food being alive. I'll take him off your
hands if you want a home for him. But if you don't have any live food source
frozen bloodworms (small) might do it. One of my favorite little critters,
kinda shy though.
