Re: NFC: DP Frozen pond question



Issue is not keeping a hole in the ice open, rather, to ensure that 
there is enough gas exchange so that sufficient oxygen levels are 
maintained. For ponds which have a stream component, it is not a problem 
as water in the stream can undergo gas exchange.  Problem comes when 
there is no inflow/outflow and ice seals off access to atmospheric air, 
leading to rapid oxygen depletion, especially in shallow ponds.
