I haven't bred any bowfins, but I have seen babies in a lake near where I
live.  The male looks after the fry when they are very young, and you can
sometimes find a big male bowfin in shallow water surrounded by a black
cloud of tiny bowfins.  They must grow fast, because I have never seen any
intermediate-sized bowfins.
