Sorry about the accident. Is the dog's owner a homeowner? It varies some
from state to state, but the dog owner's homeowners' insurance policy will
have a liability clause. I do not recall if it covers pets away from home.
The easiest way to check this out is to call the YOUR owners policy claims
department and tell them your situation. Be sure to talk to a claims adjuster
or supervisor, not just whoever answers the phone. Since you are not filing a
claim against them on this, they will be more likely to be straight with you.
Of course there is always small claims court.
