Yes, I am familiar with madtoms, these have the distinctive bullhead shape and finage. Their adipose fin is separate from the tail. They are much larger than 3" now, 8" and 6" respectively. Female is larger and fatter than the male. I've never seen a south american catfish that looks this much like a bullhead, but there a lot of catfish down there.
