Actually it is not the poison that was used (rotenone) as this is all gone in
a week or so.  The great concern was over a hydrocarbon based compound that
was used to dissolve the rotenone in water.  Only trace amounts would be
present though.  It is thought to be a potential carcinogen (what isn't?).
That seemed to be the main thing the locals were all upset about.
