Re: Now Never returned to the wild !!!!

Hi All,

The Once Caught never returned motto was originally intended for aquarium
speicies collected outdside their normal range. It has since been
expanded to include a mess o natives and now people have taken it to a
purist end of never releasing any native fish back to anywater way even
its original one that came from a particular waterway......

While I appluade folks getting excited about things I think for now we
should limit the scope of things to aquarium species.I frown heavily upon
irresonsible releases of natives as much as the next guy/gal but befor we
go shooting at each other about this issue we should take a step back
and concentrate on the obvious problem of introduced aquarium
species.......

We risk becoming so myopic on this issue that no party would be allowed
to move anyfish anywhere and in effect you would end aquarium rearing,
reintroductions, stocking and we would lose most of the interests of
naturalist, fishermen and aquarists.....

I propose that this year the BOT put out a position paper with specific
guidelines on the issue of once caught never returned . In the interum
lets get rid of them aquarium species fisrst. The educational position
paper that we could distribute to the greater public and NFC members.
These are guidelines not laws :)
