PRESS RELEASE : FROM THE NATIVE FISH CONSERVANCY
ATTN. AQUARIST AND AQUARIUM CLUBS !!! WILD CAUGHT FLORIDA
CICHLIDS AND PLECOS FOR AUCTION TO SUPPORT CONSERVATION !
My name is Daryl Roche (Phylesis at aol_com) and I am the
administrator of the Exotic Removal Program for the NFC (
Native Fishes Conservancy), a not for profit aquarist
friendly conservation organization The Exotic Removal
Program is made up of conservation minded volunteers who on
a regular basis go out to the canals and lakes of South
Florida and capture and remove and ship naturalized , exotic
aquarium species in an effort to reduce them in Florida's
waters. In nature, introduced species do not live side by
side peacefully with indigenous populations, but create a
battle for food and territory. The success of these exotics
is evidence our native fishes are loosing this battle.
NFC wants to help our native fishes in a practical way. This
program does that by removing exotic species and raising
funds for greater conservation efforts. When we catch the
exotics, which are mainly comprised of Oscars, Jewel
Cichlids, Mayan Cichlids, Plecos and various species of
unusual Cichlids. We quarantine specimens up to 4" to be
sold at our special Auction website on the internet at
....... http://www.webspawner.com/users/nfcfisheauction/ .
Larger specimens are humanely destroyed and occasionally
even fried up for dinner. Many of the Larger Cichlids are
edible and quite tasty. The proceeds from the auction go
into a bank account and will eventually be used for major
conservation projects like land purchasing or lake
restoration. We send them via priority mail typically 12 to
box for a 15$ shipping/box charge plus the auction price. So
it can be a reasonable way to aquire unique specimens for
your home aquarium. Please take a moment to consider
getting involved as either a ERP team member or as a
participant in our auction . We make special arrangements/
shipments to Aquarium societies with upcoming auctions. This
program supplies the Northern Aquarist with high quality
durable , wild caught stock while doing something practical
for our native fishes. Contact me for more info.
