Here in Ohio, Sculpins can be found in a few inches of water in fast
riffles in unsheltered streams. Fast riffle areas in general do consist of
a rock or gravel substrate.

Maybe we need some more details on the habitat - like substrate, flow rate,
tree cover, gradient (steep or gentle), etc. Kudzu, you out there?
