I have good luck setting a "block" seine below a riffle area and kicking
hell out of rocks, etc. in riffles to dislodge the critters.  This works
well for Slender madtoms , Stonecats, Brindled madtoms and Neosho
madtoms.

Freckled madtoms hang a bit closer to bankside cover.  Pushing seines
under
root balls and undercut banks will frequently turn them out.
