Here it is 2 a.m. and I cant sleep so it is time for a mid summer
Seminole state report . First off as a state we are getting close to 30
members so kudos go out to all who have been busy putting those
applications out in the mainstream ! I have not got much local mail in
the past few months I assume it is because of the summer season and the
influx of new members so I will do a quick recap of things we as a region
need to get done !

1. Get the word out ! Without public support our native fishes are
doomed. So take a NANFA application to circle K, 7-11, local newspaper or
anyplace you think it will get some traffic.

2. Volunteer somewhere (i.e. your kids school, your local newspaper, a
local fish club etc...) ! Tell someone about them native fishes.

3 OK you are not the talking type . breed something , collect something
or write something ! It all counts .We cant talk about you if we do not
know about you !

4. Call someone !! Take a moment call someone you used to collect with or
someone you always wanted to collect with and say hello. You will be
shocked at the positive response you will receive.

5. Send your news tidbits to me ! I NEED SOME INPUT TO KEEP THIS REPORT
UP TO SPEED !! WHO DOES WHAT IN SOUTH FLORIDA ? WHO DOES WHAT ANYWHERE
TELL ME !!!

6. The last group meeting was a washout due to lack of interest ! Could
it be true that we are too lazy to talk to each other :(
..................I hope not !

7. Care !!! Care enough about our environmental concerns to get involved,
care enough about our fishes to share them, and care enough about NANFA
to do something about it !

NANFA is a unique organization. It's makeup of 2/3 Aquarists and 1/3
professionals places it in a unique position. NANFA has resources in
domestic rearing and propagation unparalleled . To be successful in the
greater goals of public education and conservation we need the support of
the greater populous . The Aquarist are that support. There are over 5
million Aquarist in this country and they spend over 1 billion on their
hobby annually. To bring them into the environmental fray is not only
right it is necessary. If Aquarist can discover and rear and breed unique
Cichlids why can't they apply that dedication to local species ? NOT ONLY
CAN THEY, BUT THEY SHOULD !

With a bit of input from you folks I would like to keep this report
alive. Right now it is nothing more than an editorial when it could be so
much more. I would be glad to send out news, local activities, membership
directories and other such stuff to interested parties but up to this
point there has been scant support for a newsletter . No news , no help,
no nothing. So either give me a hand or say good-bye to the Seminole
state report ! I have not receive anything from our Florida members this
year. Which leads me to believe this report is unnecessary ! I'd love to
have a vital active group to discuss this with but like I said no
response has been the rule the last two years ! Anyhow speak up or say so
long ! I just cant justify the time and expenses to talk to myself via
this newsletter ( I know me and I am kinda boring :)
). Do our teachers here in the State do something, do other amateur
collectors collect , do people write, does south Florida still exist ?
These and other questions inquiring minds want to know >>>>>:)

BTW CHECK OUT NANFA's WEBSITE AT WWW.NANFA.ORG I HAVE A PHONE LIST FOR

NOTHING. DO SOMETHING AND GET EVERYTHING !
