Hi, You may or may not recognize my name from the FidoNet AQUARIUM echo,
I've been a part-time lurker/participant there for a number of years now.

Just today I picked up a pike from a local pet shop. I was wondering if
you
would have any pictures of various breeds in an aquarium environment so
that I could identify this critter with a little more accuracy other than
"PIKE". :)

It's in my 60Gal tank and is around 12" long, and thus the same width as
the tank and having some difficulty getting around even though I've just
pulled the majority of the tall plants (Really didn't like the plants).
I'm
looking at moving soon and don't want to start my 2-300 gallon tank
project
until then (It just makes sense). Until then, it's stuck in this small
thing.

Anyhow, It's not a northern pike. Not a grass pike. I've caught many of
those in my youth. It has an exceptionally long snout. and is light brown
in colour. It has no dorsal fin (much like a pike... ) and about 4 darker
spots near the end of the tail.

I'm starting to think that he (woops, hard not to do) might be one of these
modern cauncauctions like the "SPLAKE".

Anyhow, I think this is my introduction into natives, depending how this
goes.

Thanks in advance,

Chris.
