NFC: New member

Hello to everyone.

I'm new to all of this, too, so I hope I'm going about this in the right way.

Before I forget, I would like to publicly thank Wally Billingham for all the information he has passed along to me. He has been a great mentor through email. Also, my thanks to Bill Duuz and Robert Rice

Tom, I joined NFC about two weeks ago as a result of my interest in fish, the environment, conservation, etc. Basically, I'm new to the world of home aquariums, and the native fish thing just kind of flowed from other interests.

To be concise about all of this, I have a tank that I am about to set up today and start conditioning. My interest (for several reasons) is Heterandria formosa (least killifish).

After some experience with the Het's, I plan to branch out some because I live in Tennessee and we have a wealth of native fish here. By the way, if there's anyone else involved with Het's here in Tennessee, I'd sure like to hear from you.

Also, part of my intention in the future is possibly to help make some of our native TN fish available to others through the NFC programs (although I'm not certain how all of the breeders/exchange programs).

At any rate, I just wanted to let you know that there are other "new" people out here who are learning how all of this works.

Nice to meet you and everyone else.

Larry

Subject: Breeder's program

Dear Mr. Rice,
Today I joined the NFC because I'm interested in the Breeder's Program.
I've
just started keeping natives, but I've been breeding tropical cichlids
for
six years now, and I have a lot of experience.

Currently I have eight blackbanded sunfishes, Enneacanthus chaetodon.
Next
week I'll be getting five tadpole madtoms and four pygmy sunfishes,
Elassoma
evergladei. I can try to breed the sunfishes and report my results, if
that
will help. I know from reading your article that madtom breeding remains
a
mystery to everyone.

Are there other species that people are working with? How can I get
involved?

Sincerely,
Tom Crabill
