NFC: Re: Native/Temperate plants

The best bet would be some floating plants. I like anacharis, hornwort, and
najas grass. The last two are also native to the US. Floating plants are
closer to the bulbs so they grow better and the gravel is easier to keep
clean since there are no roots to worry about. Floating plants also pull a
TON of waste out of the water and are very good for beginners. As far as
changing the bulbs the ones that come with the eclipse hood are "plant
bulbs" but you really don't notice any difference at all between "plant
bulbs" and regular bulbs. In my fish room I just use regular 4 foot "shop
lights" with the cheapest bulbs I can get and I have been able to grow just
about anything.
