GENERAL BOATING NEWS

PIRANHA CAUGHT IN OHIO RIVER
When 12-year-old Kayla Shuits caught a foot-long fish in the Ohio River,
she wasn't the only one showing teeth. The piranha she reeled in was too.

NUMBER OF SHIPS AGROUND ON THE RISE
Coast Guard officials report a sharp increase in the number of boats
running aground this summer. While no serious injuries have been
reported,
several boats have sustained serious damage some needing to be yanked
out of the muck by large, commercial tug boats. Water levels are down in
lakes and rivers this year, but that's not the main cause of the problem,
Coast Guard officials say.

  IS YOUR BOAT PROPERLY INSURED???

Most isurance policies are an "actual cash value" all risk policy, not an
"agreed to value" policy.

Is there a difference???? Well if you have an "actual cash value"
policy, it only accounts for depreciation and is applied to both total
and partial losses, with a total loss paid at no more than the
depreciated
book value. You could end up without a boat and still owing payments!!!

An "agreed to value" policy gives an assurance of what you will be paid
in
the event of a total loss and a partial loss.

THIS WEEKS BOATING HUMOR

THE PREVIOUS OWNER
One of my neighbors was showing his boat to a prospective buyer. I won't
tell you what type of boat it was for fear that he might recognize it as
his and come to me demanding a share of what I was paid for this article.
As I labored over my brightwork in the hot August sun, I overheard the
phrase,
"Oh, that was done by the previous owner."
This sentence is almost always used as an excuse for some shortcoming
with
a
boat.

THIS WEEKS FISHING STORY

SO YOU WANT TO BE A LIVE RELEASE FISHERMAN
Most musky maniacs out there call themselves live release fishermen.
That's pretty funny. Many of these guys consider a good release to be
one in which the fish doesn't go belly up.

FISHING HUMOR FOR THE WEEK:

NO TIME TO PICK A DEBATE...IT'S WALLEYE SEASON
I guess now is good a time as any to wade into the walleye-pickerel
debate,

which has been going on for years. To this day, many Canadians still call
them pickerel, but they're wrong. They're walleye.

LIGHTHOUSES OF THE GREAT LAKES

WIND POINT LIGHTHOUSE, RACINE, WI
A few miles south of Milwaukee, and less than 50 miles north of the
"Windy City," the lakeside town of Racine, Wisconsin prospered, along
with
the rest of the region. As the town flourished, fishing boats and other
commercial craft became frequent visitors of Racine Harbor. In 1880, the
Lighthouse Board made the wise decision to build a lighthouse just north
of the city to safely guide southbound vessels into the harbor.
