4th of July Turtle Race, Johnson County, Wightsville Ga.

This year I some how ended up running the 4th of july turtle race.>>

It's a blast; we had a turtle race in Boise about 10 years ago. Wasn't real fair as most of us had box turtles we'd bought at a pet shop and a couple of hot doggers had some sliders. The slider that stayed on course ran away with the race! On the other hand, the bad dude who entered the snapper probably was counting on intimidation more than speed for his entry.

There will be those who criticize, I'm sure, but to my way of thinking it was pretty harmless fun and the kids and adults in attendance enjoyed it and became turtle fans as well.

And as far as I know, no kid has been shot in one of our schools either. Hmmmm, I'm thinking there's a direct correlation between turtle races and reduced violence in our schools. Hope everyone reading this had as good a 4th as I did and appreciates living in a country with the freedoms we enjoy here in the good ol' US of A.
