Subject: (Fwd) CARA Update - Phone Calls for Memorial Day Cosponsor Dri

Time to get cranked back up Kansans. Following is a message from
the national headquarters. I was back in DC about a month ago
visiting the congressional offices. We may have a tough sell in
some of these offices, but if we don't try we won't be successful!

Sorry if this is a duplicate for some of you!

This is the last week to encourage your Representatives to cosponsor CARA
before the Memorial Day recess! There are still 181 cosponsors, we are
still 37 short of Memorial Day goal. Focus on re-engaging last year's
supporters with phone calls, letters, and meetings with your
Representatives! (See list below.)

1. MAKE A PHONE CALL TODAY
2. LETTER TO REPRESENTATIVES
3. MEET WITH YOUR REP DURING THE RECESS
4. UPDATED LIST OF 106th SUPPORTERS & FRESHMEN

MAKE A PHONE CALL TODAY
The most effective thing that you can do today is to simply make a
telephone
call. We've found that phone calls to Hill offices are necessary in
reinvigorating your Representatives' interest in CARA and enough calls
will
certainly bring CARA to the top of their agenda. Here is a directory of
Representatives' phone numbers:

http://clerkweb.house.gov/107/mcapdir1.htm

What to say when you call:

· Ask for the Legislative Assistant who works on CARA and environmental
issues.
· "My name is ___________ and I represent [your organization] and I am a
constituent."
· "I am calling to thank the Congressman[woman] for their support of CARA
last year, and to urge the Congressman[woman] to cosponsor the
Conservation
and Reinvestment Act, HR 701 reintroduced by Congressman Don Young this
year."
· "I am concerned about wildlife conservation because __________"
· "If you have not seen the bill, have questions about the CARA or if the
Congressman[woman] wants to sign on, you can call the office of the House
Resources Committee."
· "Thank you for your time and support for wildlife conservation."

LETTER TO REPRESENTATIVES
I've attached a draft letter that coalition members could send to their
Representatives who supported CARA last year but are NOT on the bill yet
this year. Please provide them with your state's CARA funding allocation
table which is on our Web site:

http://www.sso.org/iafwa/CARA%20Updates/cara_update.htm

MEET WITH YOUR REPRESENTATIVE DURING THE RECESS
Thank, encourage, persuade, or convince your Reps to cosponsor CARA
during
the upcoming Memorial Day District Work Period. They'll be in town from
May
28 - June 1 (all next week).

UPDATED LIST OF 106th SUPPORTERS & FRESHMEN
Here is an updated list of Representatives who cosponsored or voted for
CARA
last year and are NOT COSPONSORING CARA THIS YEAR. First year
