Deep in the Amazon jungles of Bolivia, researchers are uncovering the remains 
of an incredibly advanced network of earthworks and ponds that was created 
more than 300 years ago. The long, curving earthen structures were built as 
permanent fish traps to take advantage of seasonal flooding, when fish 
migrated to spawn in the flooded savannas, says Clark Erickson, Associate 
Curator of the American Section at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of 
Archaeology and Anthropology
