This could also be due to the fact that you need to change your
bulbs. Flo bulbs need to be replaced about every 6 months. You could also use a phosphate
remover in your filter if you use external or canister. I would also work on doing a large
water change. Plus , are you sure that you have blue green algae? You never really
described what the algae looked like or smelled like.
