Re: NFC: Fw: Wisconsin fish

Jason, I also live in Wisconsin. I checked with the DNR (John Nelson,
Plymouth office 920-892-8756) last year and was told that the keeping of
native fish is legal and no special permit is required. If you plan on
catching your own fish, you must hold a valid fishing license and the
capture must abide by all applicable state fishing regulations. The fish
must also be of legal size as outlined in published fishing regulations.
Also, any fish you have at home in your tank count against your daily bag
limit. Feel free to contact him or your local DNR office for more info or
further clarification. You can of course purchase fish from a licensed
hatchery. Just be sure and keep your receipt. Unfortunately at the time I
spoke with him there where no written guidelines and being that the keeping
of natives is still fairly small, they probably will not publish anything
soon.

What fish are you interested in and where in Wisconsin are you located?

Ty

President,

I have a question. I own 4 aquariums right now and I'm planning to get
another big one. I don't have any native fish in them because I'm not
sure it is legal in this state(Wisconsin). Since I'm sure you're up to
date on this sort of thing I was wondering if you could fill me in on
some info, or tell me where I can find it? Cause I'm sure some of the
native fish here would make great tankmates with my chana micropeltes.
Or great all by themselves.

The adopt a tank program looks like a great idea!

Thank you for your time.
