HOUSE COMMITTEE SLATED TO MARK UP WRDA NEXT WEEK -- THE TIME
IS NOW TO SUPPORT CORPS REFORM!
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is
scheduled to mark up its version of the Water Resources
Development Act (WRDA) for 2000 next week. This is a
critical opportunity to get some reform measures included in
a major piece of legislation. Contact your legislator and
encourage him/her to support Corps Reform measures in WRDA
2000.

Also, Representative Ron Kind (D-WI) may introduce the Army
Corps of Engineers Reform Act of 2000 sometime next week.
This legislation will call for a variety of reform measures
that may include such things as greater civilian oversight,
modern estimates of project benefits and costs, independent
review of proposed projects, and adequate mitigation for
project impacts.

CORPS REFORM NEEDS YOUR HELP! Encourage your Representative
to cosponsor the Army Corps of Engineers Reform Act of 2000
and to support Corps Reform measures in WRDA 2000.

SENATE COMMITTEE FAILS TO INCLUDE CORPS REFOMR IN WRDA 2000
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee passed its
version the Water Resources Development Act of 2000 without
including any measures to reform the Corps. However, Senator
Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is working on stand-alone legislation
that would include Corps Reform Measures.

CORPS REFORM NEEDS YOUR HELP NOW! Encourage your Senators
to support Corps Reform measures - such as greater civilian
oversight, modern estimates of project benefits and costs,
independent review of proposed projects, and adequate
mitigation for project impacts - in WRDA 2000 when the bill
comes to the Senate floor and in Sen. Boxer's Corps Reform
legislation.
