Ive been clicking around sites to get whatever
info was out there on madtoms in general and slender
madtoms in particular . I found a site on spawning the
brown madtom with photos at
http://fbox.vt.edu:10021/org/vtafs/bmadtom/repro.htm
FOOD : I found a listing of fairly specific wild
diet for the slender madtom -
cadisflies,midgeflies,other insects and filamentous
algae .First foods for Brown Madtom fry new hatch
brine shrimp and ground catfish chow .

HABITAT : Clear streams, moderatly fast water with
gravel and boulders . Somtimes in larger rivers when
conditions are right . and - Live entirely in riffle
areas of small or medium streams .
NESTING : Males guard eggs and fry . and -
Guarded by one of the parrents , presumably the male
.Nest excvated from under flat rock normaly .By male
in the opinion of most however the lab spawning of the
brown madtom indicated help from the female . Slender
madtom fry stay in the nest , guarded by male , for
about 4 days . Slender madtom males do not eat durring
nesting .
Spawning : Late evening to early morning .Females
spawn with more than one male at different nest sites
.Eggs not attached to anything but each other .
150-200 eggs laid in adherent mass. and - Compact
cluster of eggs , probably no more than 100 .
     SIZE : 3-4 inches adult .and- 3-5 max 6

LIFESPAN : About 3 years -- could be double in
captivity .

ALSO : Listed as a nonindigenous exotic in parts
